Methodology

Immunochemiluminometric Assay (ICMA)

Specimen Requirements

If used intraoperatively, specimen must be scheduled with the laboratory 24 hours in advance.

 

Submit only 1 of the following specimens:
 

Preferred:

Serum

Draw blood in a gold-top serum gel tube. Spin down, separate serum from cells, and send 1 mL (minimum volume:  0.5 mL) of serum. Avoid hemolysis.

Note:  1. Indicate serum on request form.

2. Label specimen appropriately (serum).

 

Alternate:

Plasma

Draw blood in a lavender-top (EDTA) tube. Spin down, separate plasma from cells, and send 1 mL (minimum volume:  0.5 mL) of EDTA plasma. Avoid hemolysis.

Note:  1. Indicate plasma on request form.

2. Label specimen appropriately (plasma).

PTH CALCIUM

0 minutes-1 year:  9-10.9 mg/dL

1-150 years:  8.9-10.3 mg/dL

PTH INTACT

10-65 pg/mL
