Methodology

This value is calculated from the measured urine protein and urine creatinine.

Specimen Requirements

Submit only 1 of the following specimens:

 

Preferred:

Random Collection
6 mL (minimum volume:  0.5 mL) from a random urine collection in a leakproof, plastic urine container. No preservative. Send specimen refrigerated.

Note:  1. Protein and creatinine must be run on the same specimen.

2. Do not use urine from patients who have received radiographic contrast media.

 

Alternate:

24-Hour Collection
Submit an entire 24-hour urine collection in a plastic urine container. No preservative. Refrigerate specimen during collection, and send specimen refrigerated.
Note:  1. Protein and creatinine must be run on the same specimen.

2. Do not use urine from patients who have received radiographic contrast media.

3. Starting and ending times of collection are required on request form for processing.
4. Follow instructions in “Urine Collection” in “Special Instructions.”
