Calcium Glucose
Carbon Dioxide (CO2) Potassium

Specimen Requirements

Submit only 1 of the following specimens:

 

Preferred:

Plasma

Draw blood in a green-top (lithium heparin) tube(s), from a fasting patient (8 hour fast preferred). Spin down, separate plasma from cells, and send 1 mL (minimum volume:  0.3 mL) of lithium heparin plasma refrigerated. Avoid hemolysis.

Note:  1. Indicate plasma on request form.

2. Label specimen appropriately (plasma).

 

Alternate:

Serum

Draw blood in a gold-top serum gel tube(s), from a fasting patient (8 hour fast preferred).  Spin down, separate serum from cells, and send 1 mL (minimum volume:  0.3 mL) of serum refrigerated. Avoid hemolysis.

Note:  1. Indicate serum on request form.

2. Label specimen appropriately (serum).
